What Happened
Social media influencer and makeup artist Manjeet Kaur passed away on August 26, 2026, while receiving specialized treatment at the Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) in Chandigarh. Kaur, who lived in a rented house in Kharar, Mohali, had been hospitalized for nearly two months following a brutal and calculated assault.
According to statements provided by her family to Chandigarh Police, Kaur was abducted from Chandigarh and subjected to a horrific burning attack. She sustained severe, life-threatening burn injuries before being initially admitted to a local hospital in Morinda, followed by Max Hospital in Mohali, and finally transferred to PGI Chandigarh on July 9 as her condition deteriorated.
The Police Investigation
Authorities have registered a formal First Information Report (FIR) against two individuals based on an initial complaint filed by the victim's mother at the Sector 34 police station in Chandigarh.
Chandigarh DSP (South) Gurjit Kaur confirmed that the case has been escalated under key provisions of the law, including sections related to kidnapping (140(1)), murder (103(1)), and criminal acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention (3(5)).
Initial police inquiries reveal that Kaur had traveled to meet an acquaintance in Sector 34, Chandigarh. There, she was allegedly ambushed, forced into a vehicle, and transported across district lines to Morinda, where the perpetrators executed the attack. Investigators are currently analyzing closed-circuit television (CCTV) footage and digital communication logs to trace the exact route and sequence of events.
Who Was Manjeet Kaur?
Originally from Haryana, Manjeet Kaur was widely active across digital platforms, frequently sharing makeup tutorials, beauty content, and music videos on Instagram and YouTube. She was unmarried and balancing her digital career with local freelance work. According to preliminary findings by local law enforcement, Kaur had experienced ongoing personal disputes with certain acquaintances prior to the attack, which investigators are probing as potential motives.
Why It Matters
The brutal killing has triggered widespread outrage across digital communities, amplifying concerns regarding the physical security and offline vulnerabilities of independent content creators. As digital platforms enable influencers to build broad public profiles, the lack of localized security protocols often leaves creators exposed to real-world stalking, targeted harassment, and violent escalation.
What's Next
As the investigation unfolds, Chandigarh and Mohali police are intensifying efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects at large. Legal experts anticipate that forensic evidence gathered during Kaur's nearly two months in critical care will play a pivotal role in establishing a watertight case against the accused in court.
