Toronto FC striker Josh Sargent is finally turning a corner. After enduring a frustrating goal drought, the U.S. international has found his offensive rhythm just as the MLS regular season enters its critical home stretch.
Breaking the Drought
Sargent recently snapped a five-game goal drought with a crucial opener in a 2-1 road victory against Lionel Messi and Inter Miami. He followed that up with a brilliant solo run and assist during a 3-3 draw against Charlotte FC.
The 26-year-old Missouri native joined TFC six months ago following a transfer from English side Norwich City. While his overall tally of four goals and two assists in 14 appearances has been modest, his relentless defensive work rate has kept him vital to coach Robin Fraser's tactical setup.
"As a striker, you're always judged on goals, so every striker goes through it," Sargent noted regarding his recent mental battle on the pitch. "If you're doing the right things in the games, making the right runs, trying to get in the right positions, the goals will come, eventually."
