The worlds of French cinema and haute couture have been plunged into profound mourning following a devastating traffic collision in western France. The Niort public prosecutor's office has officially confirmed that prominent film producer Nicolas Altmayer and Dior public relations executive Mathilde Favier were the two victims killed in a violent head-on crash.
The tragedy occurred on Monday afternoon around 4:00 PM on the departmental road 938 in Airvault, situated between Thouars and Parthenay.
What Happened on the Road?
According to initial reports and statements from the Niort prosecutor's office, the couple was traveling in a MINI vehicle. While attempting to overtake another car on a three-lane stretch of the road, their vehicle collided head-on with an oncoming heavy-duty truck.
Deputy Prosecutor Nicolas Leclainche confirmed the identities of the victims and noted that an active investigation for involuntary manslaughter by a driver is currently underway to determine the precise circumstances of the crash. Fortunately, the truck driver emerged physically uninjured from the wreckage. Standard post-accident testing confirmed that the driver had consumed neither alcohol nor drugs, and he was subsequently placed in police custody for questioning.
