Manchester City is embarking on a massive midfield rebuild. Following some high-profile departures, the Premier League champions have secured one of the global game's most coveted young talents: Lille’s 18-year-old midfielder, Ayyoub Bouaddi.
The deal represents a massive financial and developmental statement from City, signal-boosting their commitment to elite youth.
Inside the €100 Million Deal
Manchester City moved quickly to secure the Morocco international. The package agreed with Lille consists of an initial €95 million (£81.4m / $110m) fee, alongside an additional €5 million (£4.3m / $5.8m) in potential add-ons.
Bouaddi is locked into the Etihad Stadium on a long-term contract running through 2031, with City retaining an option to extend the deal for an additional 12 months. The English giants previously pushed hard for the teenager earlier in the summer, beating out steep European competition to secure his signature.
Filling the Void Left by Rodri
This blockbuster move is a direct response to a changing of the guard in City's midfield engine room.
The club recently sanctioned the sale of Spanish anchor Rodri to Barcelona for an initial €60 million. With midfield mainstay Bernardo Silva also departing following the expiration of his contract, Pep Guardiola’s squad required immediate, top-tier reinforcements.
While City also brought in Elliot Anderson from Nottingham Forest for £116 million, Bouaddi represents a highly specialized, defensive-minded investment for the future.

At just 18, Bouaddi already boasts significant pedigree at both the club and international levels:
- Precocious Debut: He became Lille’s youngest-ever player at just 16 years and three days old during a Conference League match in September 2023.
- Consistent Performer: In the 2025-26 season, he made 42 appearances across all competitions, helping Lille secure a third-place finish in Ligue 1 and Champions League qualification.
- International Breakout: After representing France at the youth level, Bouaddi switched his international allegiance to Morocco in May. He subsequently starred in Morocco's historic run to the World Cup quarterfinals, starting five of their six matches and dominating possession in a standout performance against Brazil.
