During a panel at GalaxyCon Raleigh, actress Rosario Dawson dropped a major bombshell: she actually filmed a secret scene for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, reviving her beloved Marvel-Netflix character Claire Temple (aka Night Nurse). Unfortunately for fans of the "Defender-verse," her moment alongside Peter Parker ended up on the cutting room floor.
While the news brought disappointed groans from the crowd, Dawson took the edit with grace, humor, and a lingering sense of optimism for her character’s future.
What Was the Deleted Scene?
According to the film's screenwriters, Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers, Dawson’s scene was set in a hospital immediately following a brutal confrontation between Peter Parker and Michael Mando’s Scorpion.
As Claire Temple—the street-level medical savior who previously patched up Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Jessica Jones—Dawson was meant to tend to a beaten-up Spider-Man. The scene was intended to transition Peter into his next move before visiting Bruce at college.
So why throw away a scene featuring an iconic crossover character? It came down to ruthless pacing.
"It’s almost an embarrassment of riches with so many great characters and so many great scenes," screenwriter Chris McKenna explained, noting that in a movie running two-and-a-half hours, the scene created a "double beat" that bogged down the momentum.
In blockbuster filmmaking, especially within the tightly packed Marvel Cinematic Universe, narrative flow almost always trumps fan service.
A Family Laugh and a Silver Lining
Dawson shared a lighthearted story about telling her family the news, particularly her mother, who was disappointed she couldn't share behind-the-scenes photos of Dawson's grandson dressed up in Spider-Man gear.
"So yeah, I’m a reject of Spider-Man," Dawson joked. "When I tell you my post was already ready with my BTS... then I got the email."
Despite the cut, Dawson isn't walking away empty-handed—or hopeless. Because the scene was shot within the canonical framework of the MCU, it solidifies that Claire Temple is active and existing in the exact same world as Peter Parker.

For Marvel fans, Dawson’s reveal is more than just fun trivia; it’s proof of how Marvel Studios views its legacy television characters.
