A major security scare gripped Mumbai's financial district on Monday, September 7, 2026, when three men brazenly forced their way past private guards into the high-end Jio World Plaza in the Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC). The dramatic breach occurred just a day before Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled arrival for a high-profile event nearby.

What Happened at Jio World Plaza

Around 4:50 pm on Monday, three individuals—identified as 24-year-old Rohan Premal Parekh, Dilip Rajaram Kunde, and Prathamesh Ganesh Bagul—arrived at the luxury mall in BKC.

According to police reports, the main accused, Rohan Parekh, presented a suspicious identity card claiming affiliation with the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO). Using this fake credential to impersonate a high-ranking government official, the group pressured private security guards to grant them entry. Shockingly, they managed to breach the checkpoint while carrying a firearm.

Mall security officials quickly grew suspicious of the credentials and flagged the entry, prompting an immediate complaint to local authorities.

The Official Police Response

Initial reports and early police statements caused widespread confusion, linking the detained individuals directly to the venue of Prime Minister Modi's event at the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre (NMACC) on Tuesday evening.

However, Mumbai Police and Crime Branch officials quickly clarified the timeline.

“This incident took place yesterday, and there is no connection between this incident with PM’s visit to Mumbai today," stated DCP Crime Branch Raj Tilak Roshan. "The Crime Branch is conducting further investigation. The weapon is licensed, and two persons have been arrested in this regard."

What's Next for the Investigation

An FIR has been officially registered at the BKC Police Station under key sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges specifically address the impersonation of a public servant and unlawful entry into a restricted area while armed with a weapon.

Police have successfully traced and arrested all three suspects involved. Meanwhile, the Mumbai Crime Branch has launched a parallel probe to thoroughly verify the source and authenticity of the counterfeit PMO identity card, alongside uncovering the exact motives of the accused behind staging such a high-risk security breach.
