Scottish actor Gary Hollywood, best known for his long-running role in the hit comedy series Mrs Brown’s Boys, is set to stand trial in Glasgow. The 47-year-old performer has entered a plea of not guilty to charges of driving under the influence of alcohol.
Inside the Allegations
According to official court documents, the incident occurred on October 26, 2025, in the Bellahouston area of Glasgow. The prosecution alleges that Hollywood was operating a silver Land Rover while heavily intoxicated.
The breathalyzer figures cited in the charge are significant. Tests allegedly revealed that Hollywood had 115 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. In Scotland, the strict legal limit is just 22 microgrammes of alcohol per 100 millilitres of breath. This means the actor is accused of being more than five times over the legal driving limit.
Hollywood’s On-Screen Career
For over fifteen years, Hollywood was a staple of British and Irish television. He is most famous for portraying the character Dino Doyle in the BAFTA-winning comedy Mrs Brown’s Boys between 2004 and 2020. His character was a fan favorite, making his sudden exit from the show in 2020 a major talking point for viewers.
Before his comedy success, Hollywood established himself in Scottish drama. He played Dominic Dunbar in the classic Scottish soap opera Take the High Road, a role that helped launch his career in television.
What Lies Ahead
Hollywood, who resides in the Cathcart area of Glasgow, maintains his innocence and denies the single charge.
The legal proceedings were initially set to move forward at Glasgow Sheriff Court, but the hearing has been administratively adjourned. This type of adjournment is common in busy courts to manage scheduling demands. The full trial is now scheduled to proceed toward the end of the month, where the court will hear evidence regarding the arrest and the breathalyzer readings.
